Trump v. Musk Gets Ugly

Once President Trump's fiercest advocate, Elon Musk has decided to burn his bridges over the Big "Beautiful" Bill

This week we talk extensively over the savage breakup of the once mighty Trump-Musk relationship. At the heart of it is the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” which the president is pushing hard to pass, but which Musk calls it a “disgusting abomination.” The bill was already on a knife’s edge to begin with, but with Musk torching it so openly, it may face a very difficult path forward.

We also tackle what is happening in Augusta at the end of session. Democrats are disregarding Maine law which requires a hearing on the Red Flag referendum, and don’t seem to understand the bad politics of doing so. We also deal with debates over licensing, celebrating a rare win lightening regulations in the childcare market, and having to contend with an absurdly misguided attempt to license home contractors.

Finally, we take the Portland Press Herald to task for shamelessly stealing the reporting of the Maine Wire, passing it off a story as a scoop of their own. Jake calls it one of the most blatant violations of journalistic ethics he has seen in a very long time.

This and more on this week’s Pine Tree Pulse.
