The Nepo Baby Primary

Angus King III, son of Senator Angus King, wants to be governor, and so does Hannah Pingree, daughter of Rep. Chellie Pingree. What a showdown.

We have a lot of ground to cover this week, and Steve Robinson kicks things off for us by giving us an update about some new things in the works for the Robinson Report, which will offer additional, in-depth journalism for those of us concerned about what is happening in Maine and beyond.

This week in Augusta has been very eventful, with public hearings on a slate of bills that seek to deal with the continuing conflict over trans athletes in high school sports in Maine. We talk over those bills, and whether any of them will end up making it through the meatgrinder of the legislative process.

We also talk about Attorney General Aaron Frey’s response to the Federal Department of Justice lawsuit, and his clumsy attempts to redefine words, and deny reality.

Finally, we deal with the entrance of some new candidates into the 2026 political races in Maine, including the return of former Gov. Paul LePage who is running for the 2nd Congressional District, and Angus King III, who is running for governor as a Democrat. When you start looking at the emerging Democratic primary, it starts to look like a competition between political dynasties, and nepotism reigns supreme.

That and much more on this week’s Pine Tree Pulse.
