The Candidate: Jim Libby

MPI sits down with Senator Jim Libby for the latest in our series of interviews with 2026 Maine gubernatorial candidates.

Thursday, Republican state Senator Jim Libby officially announced his entrance into the 2026 Maine gubernatorial contest. This comes on the heels of several other announcements — on both sides of the aisle — this week, and the field is quickly becoming crowded.

Libby sat down for a video podcast with Maine Policy Institute to talk about his background, and what he believes needs to be done to build prosperity in Maine. Our conversation with Jim spanned from economic development, to reforming education, and the current political climate in Augusta.

This interview is the second in a series that Maine Policy Institute is conducting of the individuals who seek to be elected governor of Maine, with several more coming in the weeks ahead. If you missed our interview with Republican Bobby Charles, you can watch it here. Maine Policy Institute does not endorse candidates or involve itself in political campaigns. We are bringing you conversations like this so you may better understand the priorities of individuals who seek powerful positions in Maine’s government.
