Maine's Time Has Run Out

The deadline has passed, and the showdown between Maine and the Federal Government is showing no signs of going away
6

Matt, Jake and Harris cover a lot of ground today, starting with the expiration of the Trump administration’s 10 day deadline for Maine to come into compliance with Title IX. Clearly Janet Mills, the Legislature, the Maine Principles Association, and the school district have no intention of backing off their policy, and we break down what we think the penalty likely will be.

We also discuss the Trump administration’s big move on tariffs, including the recently announced pause on them for 90 days. What exactly is the White House’s strategy here, what is their endgame, and is the policy itself wise? We talk over that, as well as the impact that trade gamesmanship may have here in Maine, specifically.

Also, Rep. Jared Golden has made some statements and taken some votes recently that have supported Trump’s decisions on trade, as well as voting integrity. We talk about the effect of those votes on the political situation in Maine’s slowly developing gubernatorial contest.

Finally we get into the vehicle inspection fight in Augusta, and Jake explains why he’s unhappy with some Republican lawmakers who are fighting for fee increases and more government control of Maine citizens.
