This week, the Pine Tree Pulse is back and we talk about the now official nomination of Troy Jackson as the Democratic nominee to replace Graham Platner. Jackson, of course, is a well known figure in Maine politics and has been involved in state government as a member of the power elite for more than two decades. How does this change the race against Susan Collins? Is Jackson’s background, wooden delivery, and milquetoast personality going to be able to give him enough juice to truly challenge Collins? We discuss.
This week we also saw the testimony — such as it was — of Dr. Anthony Fauci on Capitol Hill. The long dreamed of public accounting from Sen. Rand Paul did not happen, however, as Fauci stonewalled, pleading the 5th Amendment repeatedly. But can he plead the 5th when he has been granted a pardon for all activities during the COVID period, and is in no real legal jeopardy? We consider.
We also chew on a recent UNH poll that showed 40 percent of Maine people had a favorable view of socialism. What does that result actually show us, and what is driving this renewed love affair with history’s most discredited economic system? We examine.
That and more on this week’s Pine Tree Pulse podcast.
