Watch now (90 mins) | In the first of a series of interviews with 2026 Maine gubernatorial candidates, Republican Bobby Charles sits down with MPI to talk about his vision for Maine
We moved out of state. Unfortunately Maine isn't fit for families any more. Such a terrible housing situation and the crime is not a place I want to setup my children in. There just isn't much to offer other than drugs and high taxes.
I qualify anyone as "high profile" if they are likely to raise a significant amount of money, attract a respectable amount of support, and actually challenge for the nomination. Charles, whether he wins or he loses, will be prominent enough to be considered a serious candidate.
Or, put another way: anyone that isn't one of the "I don't raise any money and I'm going to get like 1% of the vote, assuming I even get on the ballot" candidates.
Thanks. Listened to almost the end. I commented on the Susan Collins issue. That's a problem because she is against Trump, Obamacare is still around because of her etc. I bring this forward because it's not a Jan issue, it's a huge issue because we all love president Trump.
Thanks for reading my input. I look forward to involvement in this election.
I think he needs to address Susan Collins who has not supported Trump and who voted against repealing Obamacare during Trump's previous term. Collins is a nonstarter for me. I like what he stands for in general.
I am curious how he feels about Trump, Susan Collins and Angus King. Collins and King are against Trump
Gender coaching is happening for minors in our schools, gender surgeries are being paid for here without parental authorization and from out of state. Limit of tax hikes on residential houses for seniors was repealed by Mills after one year, we need this. RCV, green energy initiatives, and biological males in women's sports is all being addressed by Trump. I welcome feedback
When do you interview Wessells?

I won't vote for him.
I wouldn’t call him high-profile. He’s never even held office before!

Fair. But I put his topline at 5%.
I don't think there is any way of knowing that or saying what his floor or ceiling is without seeing who else throws their hat in the ring.
You’re being very fair, but I think there is - real candidates are going to run. I’m pegging it at 5-10.

He addresses this in the interview
This guy is lying. Or he hasn't a grasp on his claim to fame.
The # of non fatal overdoses in Maine in 2024 is 4,276.
Fatal 490 16.6 % lower then 2023.

This example of Republican leadership we can do without!
Lies / incompetents or both!
Will Bobby Charles' campaign song be "See You Later, Alligator"?
